These papers were written for classes at Boise State. They cover a myriad of topics, although many of them deal with communication in some form or another (go figure...I am a comm major).
- Feminist Bull Riding - Comm 421 (Theory and Philosophy of Communication) - This paper explains radical feminism and feminst cultural studies using Agent Provocateur's advertisement "Proof" featuring Kylie Minogue.
- Sexual Gazing - Comm 171 (Mass Media and Society) - This paper explains how the gaze is used in advertising with Agent Provocateur's advertisement "Proof" featuring Kylie Minogue as the example.
I chose those two papers because at first glance they appear to be presenting opposite takes on the exact same piece of media. However, while these contrary presentations might lead one to suspect I was being disingenuous in at least one of my papers, I am not. I really do believe this ad to be an excellent use of the gaze as I explain in the second paper. Not only that, I view it as being an excellent advertisement period. However, I also believe that it does reflect the societal issues that are discussed in the first paper. Just because the ad reflects one of the flaws in our society does not take away from its effectiveness.
